sod = instant lawn

Who doesn’t love instant gratification in projects??

Better yet, who doesn’t love a project that makes your home beautiful and also helps out the community!?

Curious to know more? Read about the benefits of grasses in communities here. In this increasingly urban world, sometimes it feels good to know that each of us can help out nature just a little bit.

At Blue Grass, the environment and precision farming are always on our minds. We can teach you how to responsibly (and economically) care for your plants to support your health, your home, your family, and your planet.

When I built my home I bought all of my sod from Blue Grass. I only sodded ¾ of the yard initially. After trying for two seasons to seed the rest I went back to Blue Grass and bought a few more sod to complete the yard. It all matched perfectly. They are very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. They won’t sell you something you don’t need. They are experts and I trust them completely. Now, I buy all of my lawn products from them and my yard looks great. If you live in Iowa, you know how hard that is to do. Three of my neighbors now get their lawn products from them also! Love a family business. You can’t go wrong with Blue Grass Enterprises.

+ How much does sod cost?

Sod prices are based on the square footage of the project. Call us 319-842-2165 with your project measurements and we are happy to give you an accurate quote.

+ How do I measure for sod?

We will need to know the square footage of the area. You can find the square footage of a square or rectangular area by taking the length x width. And just in case you just took out an above-ground pool and need a refresher, the area of a circle is πr² #geometryinreallife

You can also use technology to help you! If you go to Google Earth and enter your address, there is a measurement tool that will allow you to calculate the square footage of an area with a few clicks of the mouse. #betterlivingthroughtechnology

Either way works for us!

+ Do you install sod? I'm looking for a contractor to do this project for me.

No, we do not install sod. But we supply sod to hundreds of contractors in the area. We are happy to make recommendations of who you may want to call based on your location and the size and scope of your project. 319-842-2165

+ I have a yard. How do I keep it happy and healthy?

  1. Plants need food. We designed our basic feeding programs to give homeowners an exceptional lawn with minimal effort and maximum results. We recommend doing a soil sampling before applying any nutrients, minerals, or treatments to your lawn. Using your results, we will make recommendations based on the actual deficiencies (or surpluses) in your soils.
  2. We recommend yearly aerations for mature lawns and core aerating twice a year for newly constructed lawns.
  3. Information about best mowing practices can be found here.
  4. Our watering recomendations can be found here.

+ Do you deliver?

Blue Grass Enterprises offers delivery services. The minimum amount for a delivery is a half a semiload which is about 50 square (5,000 square feet).

Our semis can haul a maximum of either 10,000 or 12,000 sqaure feet, depending on whether you order pallets or rolls. Call us at 319-842-2165 for an estimated delivery charge or to schedule a delivery. We recommend one to two weeks lead time to ensure optimal scheduling and prep time for both your team and ours.

For smaller quantities you will need to visit our farm to pick up your order. Keep in mind that one square of sod weighs up to 300# (depending on moisture content). Here are some recommended vehicle limits:

  • Small to Mid-size Car - 100 sq/ft (18 pieces)
  • Big Car - 150 sq/ft (27 pieces)
  • Small Pickup - 300 sq/ft (54 pieces)
  • Full-Size Pickup - 450 sq/ft (1 full pallet)

Remember to bring blankets (if you are hauling sod in your vehicle) or straps to tie down the sod (if you are hauling in a pickup).

Sod is a perishable product, unused sod cannot be returned for refund or credit.

+ How big are the sod pieces? Do you have big rolls? What do they weigh??

Our pieces are 40" x 20". 18 pieces make up a 100 sq/ft area. There is no minimum order, so you can order a single piece if you need! Our full pallets typically have 450 sq/ft of sod and weigh approximately 1,500#.

We also sell big rolls that are 40" x 90'. Each roll covers 300 sq/ft. These big rolls weigh 900# and require special equipment to move and unroll them. We have two options available for equipment to use these rolls.

Call our office to discuss what options might be best for you. 319-842-2165
